Unlock Net Zero is a leading organisation dedicated to educating, informing, and connecting people and businesses committed to embedding net‑zero approaches within their operations, products, and services. Their third annual awards ceremony took place on Tuesday 24th June 2025 at Manchester Central’s Exchange Hall, as part of the Housing 2025 Conference.
The award recognises ZED PODS’ industry-leading commitment to sustainability, innovation, and social impact in delivering high-quality, energy-efficient social housing schemes across the UK. Recent developments like Fortis House in Ashford and Shapland Place& St Andrews House in Mid Devon, demonstrate how design-led, off-site manufactured homes can simultaneously tackle the housing crisis and the climate emergency.
All ZED PODS homes achieve SAP 100A+ energy ratings, deliver significant carbon savings, and utilise ISO 19650-compliant BIM technology to ensure build quality, operational efficiency, and long-term durability. Post-occupancy studies, supported by environmental sensors and IoT technology, have validated the exceptional performance of these buildings.
ZED PODS also champions inclusivity, with a significant proportion of its workforce from Black and minority ethnic backgrounds, and one-third of its factory workforce comprising day-release prisoners through the Prisoners Building Homes programme.
The company has further demonstrated that Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) can deliver both environmental impact and strong financial performance.
Tom Northway, Chairman of ZED PODS, commented:
"We are honoured to receive this fantastic recognition. We are proud to be leading the way in creating affordable, zero-carbon homes that leave a lasting legacy for people and the planet. This award reflects our team’s focus on quality, sustainability, and delivering positive social value."
The judging panel praised ZED PODS:
“A really ground-breaking organisation leading on offsite volumetric MMC housing solutions for social housing. Carbon reduction is prioritised through low-carbon design, material choice, and use of renewables.”
